Primary PTSD Treatments

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT is the clinical foundation of Bella Health.
CPT is one of the most researched and effective treatments for PTSD and has strong recommendations from organizations such as the American Psychological Association (APA), National Center for PTSD, and International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). It is effective for many types of trauma, including childhood abuse, sexual assault, combat, accidents, and other traumatic experiences.
Rather than focusing on a single traumatic memory, CPT helps identify and change the beliefs and meanings that continue to keep PTSD going. Trauma often shifts the way we view ourselves, others, and the world, leading to themes around safety, trust, control, self-worth, and intimacy. By addressing these broader patterns, many clients experience meaningful change across multiple memories, situations, and relationships.
Treatment is structured, collaborative, and time-limited, while remaining individualized to your needs. Clients leave not only with relief from PTSD symptoms, but also with a practical framework they can continue using long after therapy ends to navigate future stressors and reduce the likelihood of relapse.
CPT is typically completed in approximately 12 sessions and may be offered in a traditional weekly format or as an intensive.

Prolonged Exposure (PE) is one of the most researched and effective treatments for PTSD. It helps people gradually approach trauma memories, emotions, and situations they have been avoiding so the brain can learn that they are no longer dangerous. As fear and avoidance decrease, many people experience meaningful reductions in PTSD symptoms and greater confidence engaging in everyday life.
PE is structured, collaborative, and time-limited. Depending on your goals and treatment plan, exposure-based interventions may also be thoughtfully integrated with other evidence-based therapies rather than delivered as a full PE protocol.
PE is typically completed in approximately 12 sessions.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence-based treatment that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they become less emotionally distressing and no longer feel as though they are happening in the present. During treatment, clients briefly engage with aspects of a memory while using bilateral stimulation to facilitate adaptive processing.
Bella Health’s approach integrates the standard EMDR protocol, EMDR 2.0 strategies when appropriate, and an IFS-informed understanding of parts to support preparation, processing, and integration. Depending on your needs, treatment may also incorporate cognitive interweaves and other evidence-based strategies to help move processing forward when needed.
EMDR can be used as a stand-alone treatment or thoughtfully integrated with other evidence-based trauma therapies as part of an individualized treatment plan. The length of treatment varies depending on your goals, history, and presenting concerns.

Written Exposure Therapy (WET) is a brief, evidence-based treatment for PTSD that helps clients process traumatic experiences through structured writing. Over the course of five sessions, clients write about the same traumatic event in a guided and supportive way, allowing the brain to process the memory while reducing avoidance and emotional distress.
Like Prolonged Exposure, WET promotes new learning by helping clients gradually approach trauma memories rather than avoid them. The writing process often leads to new perspectives and a deeper understanding of the experience and its impact.
WET is a structured, time-limited treatment consisting of five sessions and may be a good option for individuals seeking a brief, evidence-based approach to PTSD treatment.
In some cases, WET may serve as a stand-alone treatment, a starting point, or be thoughtfully incorporated into a broader treatment plan when clinically appropriate.

Additional Evidence Based Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based treatment that helps people better understand the relationships between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical reactions. Depending on your goals, CBT may focus on identifying and modifying unhelpful beliefs, reducing avoidance, building coping skills, improving emotion regulation, and increasing engagement in meaningful activities. CBT can be used as a stand-alone treatment or thoughtfully integrated with trauma-focused therapies.
CBT work may include:
• Cognitive restructuring
• Exposure-based interventions
• Behavioral experiments
• Behavioral Activation
• Skills for sleep and emotion regulation
• Treatment for anxiety, depression, panic, grief, or adjustment-related concerns
CBT is often a good fit when the primary concern is something other than PTSD, when multiple mental health concerns are present, or when a broader CBT framework is clinically indicated.
This is an option if you are unsure about starting trauma therapy or the timing isn’t right but would like to understand more about trauma reactions and learn some quick and effective skills to help manage symptoms in 2-5 session.
Often used during or after completion of another therapy, BA helps you explore what is of most value to you in your life and thoughtfully integrate more meaningful activities in your day to day life.

50 min hour or 90 min sessions
Bella Health’s concierge model offers discreet, highly personalized support for high performers, public figures, or anyone seeking a more private experience. With extended access to your clinician, flexible scheduling, and trauma-specific, evidence-based care, you’ll receive expert support without the limitations of traditional therapy.
Bella Health offers intensive therapy options for many modalities or mixed modalities. Intensive trauma therapy allows you to dive deep into your work with extended sessions- often 90 minute sessions and or therapy multiple days a week- designed for more rapid relief in a shorter period of time. Intensives are ideal for clients with limited availability, those seeking more immediate relief, or anyone looking for a structured and impactful alternative to weekly therapy. All treatment is customized to your goals and pace.
Many clients continue working with a primary therapist before, during, or after specialized trauma treatment. This is a common and often helpful model of care. With your written consent, I collaborate with treating providers to help coordinate care, support continuity, and facilitate a thoughtful treatment process.

How Bella Health Works

No single trauma therapy is right for everyone. The best treatment is the one that best fits where you are in your healing. Treatment recommendations are individualized and made collaboratively during consultation and intake based on your symptoms, goals, treatment history, preferences, and clinical presentation.
While EMDR is one of the most widely recognized trauma therapies, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) serves as the clinical foundation of Bella Health due to its extensive research support and strong recommendations from organizations such as the American Psychological Association (APA), National Center for PTSD, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Other evidence-based approaches may be recommended when clinically appropriate as a primary treatment or as part of a broader treatment plan. The goal is not to fit you into a particular therapy model, but to identify the approach most likely to support healing and lasting, meaningful recovery.

Bella Health offers more than one way to receive specialized trauma care. Most clients work with one primary clinician throughout treatment. However, when clinically appropriate, we may recommend a collaborative approach in which two clinicians work together to support your care.
This model can provide additional support, reinforce skills between sessions, increase flexibility, enhance continuity during scheduling or coverage needs, and further individualize treatment based on your goals and clinical needs.
Rather than replacing the therapeutic relationship, collaborative care is designed to strengthen it. Recommendations are made thoughtfully and only when we believe this approach is likely to meaningfully enhance your treatment and recovery.

Each evidence-based trauma therapy works a little differently and offers unique strengths.
CPT helps identify and change the beliefs and meanings that continue to shape how trauma affects your life. Because those beliefs often connect many different memories and situations, changes can extend broadly while providing practical skills clients can continue using long after therapy ends.
EMDR helps the brain reprocess emotionally charged memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing them to become more adaptively integrated.
PE and WET promote new learning by helping people gradually approach trauma memories rather than avoid them, allowing the brain to learn that those memories and reminders are no longer dangerous.
For many people with complex, developmental, or chronic trauma, it is not a single memory that drives symptoms. Rather, repeated experiences often shape broader beliefs about safety, trust, power and control, self-worth, and relationships. By addressing these underlying patterns directly, CPT can create meaningful change across many different memories, situations, and areas of life.
That doesn't mean CPT is always the right starting point. Depending on your needs, treatment may consist of one evidence-based therapy, a thoughtful combination of approaches, or a sequence of treatments over time.
