Individual Therapy

  • CPT is the primary service offered at Bella Health.

CPT is a highly effective treatment for many kinds of trauma including childhood abuse, sexual assault, combat and more.

Treatment focuses on teaching clients how to get “unstuck” with thoughts about their trauma by learning to identify, challenge, and modify unhelpful trauma-related beliefs.

CPT is typically 12 sessions and can be done weekly or intensive (multiple times a week)

  • PE is another gold standard treatment for PTSD and teaches clients to gradually approach trauma-related memories, feelings and situations that they have been avoiding since the trauma. Research has shown that confronting the things you have learned to avoid can result in a decrease in PTSD symptoms. PE is usually 12 sessions.

    Availability at this office: Low

  • EMDR has clients briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Length of treatment varies.

    Availability at this office: Moderate

  • Similar to PE, WET has clients confront memories they’d normally avoid but from a “distanced” approach. WET is a brief 5-session therapy that helps clients discover new ways to think about and make meaning of their trauma. Through writing exercises and talking about the writing experience clients learn to experience and tolerate the trauma memory with less emotional distress.

    Availability at this office: Moderate

  • Like CPT, CBT for PTSD also focuses on the impact trauma has on the way we think about ourselves, others, and the world and helps clients identify and challenge unhelpful and inaccurate beliefs related to their trauma using a straightforward 5 step process. This treatment offers more emphasis on PTSD psychoeducation and also incorporates action planning and self-regulation skills. CBT for PTSD is typically 8-16 sessions. This can be a good alternative to CPT for young adults, individuals struggling with multiple mental health issues or high levels of distress.

    Availability t this office: Moderate

  • This is an option if you are unsure about starting trauma therapy or the timing isn’t right but would like to understand more about PTSD and learn some quick and effective skills to help manage symptoms in 2-5 session.
